Search Engine Market Share

From the data provided by Comscore as at September 2009, the market leader Google has 64.9% of market share, followed by Yahoo with 18.8% and Bing with 9.4%. These figures are for the US, but it does provide a guideline of how the different search engines are performing.

Month by month Bing is slowly increasing its market share. Since its launch at the end of May, Bing has increased its market share from 8% in May to 9.4% in September.

Google and Yahoo have slightly decreased in market share from 65% in May to 64.9% in September and from 20.1% in May to 18.8% in September respectively.

This is not a major increase in market share and Bing is way behind Google but with the merger between Yahoo and Microsoft, they are expected to have approximately 30% of the market share.

Google on the other hand is working on its new search engine called Google "Caffeine". Will that be enough to match the merger? Well, let’s wait and see what happens to the figures and in what other ways Google will react to this merger.
